What we are Fundraising for:

Formally labeling the Camellia Varieties
Cost: $1200 to $5000
We have around 340 camellias at Eden Gardens State Park! Many of them are labeled with small plastic or aluminum labels tied to a branch. The small plant labels are fading, falling off and difficult to find. By having these formal signs made for each camellia, we hope to make the information more accessible to guests as well as provide a more permanent and sturdy label to identify the plants we have.
The signs will cost about $20 each. We hope to start with a group of about 60 camellias closest to the bayou ($1200). After we complete the first area, we can continue these efforts with the camellias in the ‘Hidden Garden’ next to the pavilion and others closer to the Wesley House.
*Update* we installed 78 of these in May 2022 and will be working on getting another round of signs made. The ultimate goal is to have all the camellias labeled.
Hidden Garden Pathway Gravel (Completed Sept 2022)
Cost: $725 There is a footpath that has formed over the years in the Hidden Garden. We would like to purchase gravel to make this area more level and well defined for park visitors. There is 115 linear feet of pathway that we would like to make 4.5 foot wide in this area. We hope to get this project complete in Fall 2022 |
Restoration inside the Wesley House (Completed April 2022)
Cost: $2,200
Due to foundation settling over the years and a recent roof leak, there is water damage and cracks within the Wesley house that are in need of repair. The roof leak has been fixed, and it will cost about $2200 to restore the interior. In July 2021, The Wesley House was officially listed on the National Register of Historic Places. We are awaiting approval from the Department of Historical resources to proceed with the necessary repairs.
