Camellias at Eden

Camellias at Eden Gardens State Park

There are over 340 camellia plants inside of Eden Gardens State Park, many of them planted by Mrs. Lois Maxon before she donated the land and home to the state in 1968. Over the past 50+ years since Ms. Maxon donated the land, some varieties have been lost and some have been added. Below are some photos of Camellias at Eden that we are able to identify. The Friends of Eden Gardens hope to expand this catalog and properly identify camellia plants whose labels have become illegible or fallen off.

Sasanqua Varieties

Sasanquas are a species of Camellia that generally bloom earliest in the season.
At Eden we start seeing the sasanquas open in mid-October.
Below are some of the sasanqua varieties we have identified in the park

Unlabeled Blooms

The Blooms below are ones we are still trying to Identify.
If you have any expertise in Camellias and recognize one of them, we would love to hear from you!
